3rd Annual Cincy Winter Beerfest
Dec 23rd
The 3rd annual Cincy Winter Beerfest is coming this year to the Hyatt Regency downtown with a larger venue and broader offering of over 90 craft beers. The date is Jan 30th and you can get discounted tickets before December 25th (with a VIP status thrown in that gets you access to the … you guessed it … the VIP lounge).
The beer list is being updated daily but already has an impressive roll call.
- Founders Breakfast Stout (Grand Rapids, MI)
- Sierra Nevada Southern Hemisphere and the elusive Bigfoot Ale (Chico, CA)
- Bluegrass Brewing Company (Lexington, KY) with an anticipated Bourbon Barrel Rye Porter
- Stone Brewing Company (San Diego County, CA) with a TBD beverage, though really Brady would probably drink anything they brewed
- And we can’t forget Cincinnati’s standout canned brew – Hudy Delight
I didn’t see Dogfish Head on the list but they had a booth last year. I wouldn’t mind a taste of that 120 Minute IPA that can be tricky to find. The crew at DrinkHomeBrew.com just snagged a few tickets and would invite any local home brewers to join the event.
*UPDATE* You can now become a fan of Cincy Beer Festivals (all 2 of them) on facebook and follow the updates. A few official sponsors were just posted, including Hoist, the post-partying rehydration safeguard against tomorrow’s hangover, downtown’s own Rock Bottom Brewery, and The Party Source in Newport. I tried Hoist the other day as a free sample … and, I think it rehydrated me. Rather I just had to wake up through the night and empty all the Hoist that was in my belly. I didn’t exactly do a back flip out of bed, but certainly no headache.
**UPDATE** The beer list is now up to 140 with more still to come. Notable additions include the Breckenridge Oatmeal Stout, BBC’s confirmation of their popular Bourbon Barrel Stout, and Goose Island’s elusive “Matilda”. The VIP tickets are about sold out and only a few hundred general admission tickets left.
Welcome to DrinkHomeBrew!
Dec 21st
Welcome to DrinkHomeBrew.com! We created this site to share our love of home brewing beer with friends, family, and fellow home brewers. We started with brewing kits from Listermann’s in Cincinnati and confidently pulled off an IPA, Imperial Stout, an Oktoberfest we don’t talk about*, and the English Nut Brown Ale that just went into bottles last night. The next step is to break away from the chains of home brewing kits, find some recipes to stray off the comfortable path, and some day make our way to the coveted land of mashing our own malt. To dream the dream.
We thought a site to share recipes and discuss home brewing techniques might help everyone achieve better tasting brew. Please share your comments and insight on our posts — our ego’s haven’t had enough time yet to believe that we know everything about brewing.

*Our crucial mistake with the Oktoberfest was fermenting in the wrong temperature. The instructions said 48-50 degrees but we thought a balmy 70 at the tail end of a hot summer certainly couldn’t hurt. Well, it did. Gathering with friends to take the first sip (mistake #2), we all learned simultaneously that our Oktoberfest beer tasted like … pears. We have since learned this is a possible side effect from fermenting in the wrong temperature affecting yeast activity.
